Lovers of old school reggae music in Kenya joined their colleagues around the world to commemorate Jamaican legend, the late Peter Tosh.
Born on October 19, 1944, Tosh is globally known for his reggae tunes that appeal to people globally.
Before he established himself in 1977, he was part of the Wailers band, performing alongside the legendary Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer.
He was a devotee of the Rastafarian movement. The community believes that Haile Selassie, a one-time emperor of Ethiopia, was an embodiment of God or a messenger of God.
‘NO NUCLEAR WAR’
Tosh was killed by gunmen at his home in Kingston, Jamaica on September 11, 1987. That year, he won a Grammy award for his album ‘No Nuclear War’.
“Three armed men arrived on motorcycles at Tosh’s home in St Andrews, a suburb at Kingston, entered the house at 8:30pm, Friday and shot the seven people present after they refused to give up their money,” a report in a radio station then said.
A detective added that the robbers apparently thought he had a large amount of cash since he had just returned from the united states.
Peter tosh died of severe gunshot wounds on his way to the hospital.
Today, Kenyans on Twitter shared sweet messages of how they remember him declaring him a legend. They also share some of his famous quotes from his songs.

A fashion decision by Keroche Breweries heiress Anerlisa Muigai has earned her more criticism than praises from her online followers.
Anerlisa, a renowned fashionista known for dazzling her fans with impressive designs, appears to have missed the mark this time – at least this is according to her fans – with an evening gown she wore during her boyfriend’s birthday party in Zanzibar.
While attending Ben Pol’s birthday party Anerlisa chose to wear a mermaid shaped red dress that has a plunging neckline that boldly reveals sections of her breast.
“Birthday dinner look,” wrote Anerlisa Muigai on Instagram.

Two years ago, the musician was transferred to the same hospital after he complained of dizziness and fatigue from Kenol Hospital in Murang’a.
He was diagnosed with kidney failure. The musician’s accident came barely a month after John Mwangi Ng’ang’a alias John De’ Mathew died after his car hit a track along Thika Kenol Highway.
The death of John De’ Mathew was precipitated by the death of Joseph Kamaru also from Muranga.
Kiss FM presenter Kamene Goro, known for her frank talk on radio, regrets revealing her body count, claiming that it made her lose big corporate deals.
In August last year, while still working at NRG radio, the former TV queen revealed that she had slept with 27 men at the time.
With the revelation, the 27-year-old became a butt of nasty trolls on social media with the conversation trending for days.
Whereas Kamene maintains that she was only being real with herself, she did not expect the backlash that followed and even worse being dropped by corporates she was already working with at the time.
“It was one of the worst periods of my life. Not that I regret what I said, but the backlash was huge. A lot of corporates dropped me and even my employer at the time (NRG radio) put me on an ice block. It was treble just for sharing a honest fact” Kamene told True Love September’s edition.
A MAN
Kamene, however, thinks the conversation would have been much different if she was a man.
“Every condom company would have run to him for endorsements. As a woman they expect you to lie when it comes to sexual partners. The guy I was dating at the time told me that I should have reduced the number to three or four” she added.
An unidentified child has become an instant sensation among internet users after an audio of him speaking in heavy Meru accent went viral and inspired countless songs.
The undated audio clip has been widely shared on social media were a man is asking the child some questions which he boldly answers with the heavy accent. The man, who is also unidentified. also asks the child to repeat some words that come out with the heavy Meru accent.
No one knows who the child is where or when the clip was recorded.
Soon after it was shared on social media, someone remixed the words to a song, which has been played on local televisions and has become a club banger.
In the clip, the child is asked to say the sentence “Big G imekulwa na dogi”. The child says “mbinginjii imekulwa na ndogi.”

The conversation goes on where the child asked their school teacher is and again the child says Mrs Muridi as opposed to Mrs Murithi. He also
If you thought you have seen enough of popular musician Esther Akoth, famously known as Akothee, you are in for a big shock as the siren has captured the attention of Second Lady, Rachel Ruto, with her big heart and philanthropic activities in Turkana.
The mother of five held talks with the wife of Deputy President’s William Ruto on Friday who was left awestruck by her initiatives to give back to the less fortunate.
Mrs Ruto took to her social media pages to express her joy at having met the flamboyant businesswoman.
“It was really nice spending time with Esther Akoth ( Akothee) today! What a beautiful story of determination and drive. We thank God for the work Akothee foundation is doing especially in Turkana! Esther has great tenacity & a beautiful spirit! We wish you all the best!” wrote Rachel on Twitter.
The controversial singer also turned to her social media to thank Mrs Ruto for the invite and opportunity to present her projects while at the same time warning her detractors that they had not yet seen the best of her.
“Thank you for the invite Mama. When I finished presenting my Turkana Project to Mama Rachel of building cultural center, schools, dormitory for old people, water project, irrigation, hospitals then she added ‘and a church in each and every center. This touched my heart deep mom! Yes a church mum we all need God,” gushed Akothee.
“For the rest who see every negative thing on every good course you will soon take back your insults. You will insult me, you will create enmity between me and innocent people. You will try to break me and sabotage everything that I do. But you know what, you can’t stop a determined anointed woman.”
She urged her critics to join hands with her in helping the needy in the society instead of bashing her.
“Charity is a call, it’s not something you learn In school and I can’t do it alone. We are all responsible to our neighbors. Do it in your own small way and get Gods rewards,” she said.
Madam Boss, as she calls herself, has a number of initiatives under her Akothee Foundation, which has seen her recently make several trips to the arid Turkana on humanitarian trips,”
Former radio presenter Ciku Muiruri has come under harsh criticism from Kenyans who have accused her of exploiting people’s misfortunes to sell her book.
In the latest post on her Facebook, Ciku shares a short story recollecting on the day she interacted with murdered Dutch businessman Tob Cohen and his widow Sarah Wairimu at their home in Kitisuru.
Muiruri starts off by explaining that he knew Mr Cohen and she was impressed by their hospitality and lovely home.
She mentions how the couple at the time owned dogs that she spent most of the time bonding with. However, what has irked most Kenyan’s is how she markets her book in the post.
“I knew Tob Cohen. I was fortunate enough to visit their home late last year. He and Sarah, have a lovely home, well put together. They both bought a copy of (names her book) I spent a large part of that evening bonding with their dogs. Dogs, very friendly and loveable (at least to me), that if need be, can turn vicious. Dogs protect their master… Where were they?” wrote Ms Muiruri.
SUCH A MOVE
This is not the first time she has pulled such a move. Earlier this year, she offered her opinion after former KTN news anchor Esther Arunga pleaded guilty to being an accessory to the murder of her son in an Australian court.
In her rant, Muiruri, once famous for her busted show on radio, claimed that Ms Arunga was not a victim and was the mastermind of the whole story that has left her husband Quincy Timberlake incarcerated in Australia.
The mother of one launched her book in 2018 where she talks about love, telling women to walk away from toxic relationship. People commenting on her latest post slammed her:
“I’m beginning to suspect the book’s content,” said Omondi Obell.
“But this chick has lost it,” wrote kevin Waithaka.
“She’s actually marketing her whacky book!” commented Ouma K’Olum.
SOLD YOUR BOOK
“If you sold your book “love is but a dream” to them what do you expect?” asked Mogul King Steamy.
“Who bewitched these slayqueens surely?, we are here mourning a life that has been gruesomely lost and instead of you condemning the act you here talking about the dogs and bonding?, as if that’s the most important thing here. As if that’s not enough you go ahead and start advertising your senseless book at someone’s funeral?, what’s wrong with you?, who knows maybe you’ve never even met them you just stealing the chance to market that crap. I think at times we need to mature up,” said Stanley Stan Kinyua.
“Our female version of “Baba” who knows all the deceased or spoke to them prior to their demise Anyway, bora marketing,” stated Monicah Neemoh.
In a classic case of mistaken identity, BBC Africa journalist Ciru Muriuki found herself facing the KOT jury to answer for offences she did not commit.
Ciru woke up on Saturday morning to an avalanche of scathing comments from Kenyans on Twitter who attacked her because of a post written by former radio presenter Ciku Muiruri, who shares a slightly similar name to hers.
However, some Kenyan’s on Twitter, out chastise Ms Muiruri, could not distinguish between the two and ended up directing their messages to Ms Muriuki, forcing her to come out and defend herself.
“I am not @MissCiku. I haven’t written a book. I never hosted a show named Busted. And I haven’t tweeted anything about dogs. Aki please I was just doing my juice cleanse in peace,” tweeted Ciru Muriuki.

Kenyans and Nigerians have been exchange bitter words on social media since American movie giant Warner Media decided to cast Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o for the role of a Nigerian character in a new movie, Americanah.
The movie is based on a book by the same title by award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
“HBO Max orders limited series ‘Americanah’ based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same name. The 10-episode series will star Lupita Nyong’o with the pilot written by the showrunner,” posted the American movie maker.
Americanah, which just earned a straight-to-series order from HBO Max, follows a Nigerian woman named Ifemelu (Nyong’o) and “her extraordinary experiences with love, heartache, adversity and self-discovery” as she travels to America, per the official synopsis.
Nigerians were however displeased with the movie maker’s decision to have a Kenyan character and not Nigerian arguing the role would have been best suited for a Nigerian actress mostly because of bringing out the Nigerian accent.
They need to stop doing this. We have fine actresses from Nigeria who can play these roles better. Lupita is good but try other people who are Nigerians. What, she’s going to be told or taught how to speak Half-baked Igbo instead of A real Nigerian? https://t.co/lo0eoPSjwL
Y’all are trying to tell me that you couldn’t find any black actor of Nigerian origin to play ifemelu? Love Lupita but surely Yvonne Orji is available as are other Nigerians out there in Hollywood, why always lupita whenever anyone African is required for a role, be diverse
But Kenyans on Twitter, in their typical nature, have hit back by telling off Nigerians to live with the reality of Lupita’s role in the new movie.
Anyone can mimmic the Nigerian accent just fine even aliens and zombies. So ya’all stop drama with the accent argument and wait for the real drama to come to your tv screens
So Nigerians think Lupita Nyong’o has come to create unemployment in Nigeria by acting in ‘Americanah’ with an igbo accent. If you want to take Lupita’s Position in the film then outsmart her in acting. Otherwise, go to the Village witch and charm yourselves into the movie.
When the Lion King album was being made, so many Nigerian artists made it to the list & no Kenyan artist was put on the list let alone any East African Artist. So you all Nigerians have so much double standards. Lupita is a dope actress & you can’t compare her to Genevieve Nnaji.
Kenyan gospel singer Bahati broke down while being interviewed on NTV’s The Trend show on Friday night, as he opened up about the pain of losing his mother at the young age of seven years.
The singer was overcome by emotions when the show host singer Antoneosoul asked him what he thinks his mother would say about him now.
The emotional Nyota hit maker started by saying how much he misses his late mother.
“At times I miss her… even when I’m growing, as a musician… at times I’m misunderstood… but I’m only trying my best… to make her proud,” a teary Bahati said.
“There are some stories that have been said that I cannot just share with the public. But to my mum everyday I work hard to make her proud,” he added.
Bahati also recounted what he went through as a boy when he witnessed his mother’s death.
“If I can remember so well I was seven at Huruma that is in Mathare constituency. My mum fell sick and I remember it was on 26 December coz watu walikuwa wanakula chapo. And the next day after Christmas niliona akitolewa na blanketi,” he narrated.

Former Kenya international midfielder McDonald Mariga breathed a sigh of relief on Monday when he was cleared to contest for the vacant Kibra parliamentary seat.
His clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ended an anxious wait for Mariga whose nomination by the Jubilee Party had been invalidated last week.
And so Mariga now remains on course for political career that will see him following in the footsteps of other celebrities who have transitioned into politics.
Celebrities becoming politicians is not a new concept here in Kenya.
Some have won, while many other have seen their political ambitions going up in smoke.
Here are few Kenyan celebs who have turned to politics in recent years.
1. Mohammed Ali
The former KTN investigative journalist, who went to become Member of Parliament for Nyali constituency in the coast in the 2017 general election, initially lost the ODM nominations under controversial circumstances.
He jumped ship and vied as an independent candidate and won.
Even then his win was contested in court, before his victory was upheld.
Before joining politics Ali, though this work, exposed many hidden corruption cases in Kenya though his well investigative TV series Jicho Pevu.

2. Charles ‘Jaguar’ Kanyi
He is a recording artiste who went on to become the Member of Parliament for Starehe constituency in 2017.
Jaguar first made it to limelight as a recording artiste in 2004 when he recorded and released his first single Utaweza Kweli.
In 2005 he recorded and released several singles among them his most popular hit single Kigeugeu.
With Kigeugeu in the airwaves across the country, Jaguar was now a household name in the country.
He vied for and won the Starehe seat against another celebrity candidate activist Boniface Mwangi.

3. Sabina Chege
She started out as an actress in the local TV series Tausi.
She later become a radio presenter, before joining politics in 2013 when she was elected the Woman Representative for Muranga county.
She retained the seat in the 2017 general election.
Ms Chege is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health in the National Assembly.

4. Gathoni wa Muchomba
Wa Muchomba moved from the radio waves to become a Woman Representative in Kiambu County in 2017.
Before trying out politics Wa Muchomba had been the queen of vernacular radio stations from 1999 when she was working for Kameme FM.
In the 2017 general election, She declared her interest in the Kiambu Woman Rep seat which she ultimately won.

5. McDonald Mariga
The former Kenyan international whose current market value as a footballer is said to be Sh34.3 million made an unlikely move some time last month following the death of former Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
Before the Kibra by-election, Mariga kept a low profile, only making headlines because of his football career.
Right from the onset, Mariga’s political move has been fraught with numerous obstacles which have further divided the Jubilee Party.
His candidature has been the subject of opposition both within and without the party circles.
But with IEBC’s clearance, Mariga can only hope to become the next Kenyan celebrity Member of Parliament.

The newfound friendship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Tanzanian President John Magufuli appears to be having a rather interesting effect on the latter.
This after President Magufuli was captured in a live broadcast singing to Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol’s hit Extravaganza.
In The video shared by Sauti Sol, Mr Magufuli uses part of the song’s lyrics to put his point across in his speech while launching two projects to help increase the number of aircrafts on Monday.
“Ule wimbo sijuwi wa mwimbaji nani kule, nafikiri Sauti Sol. Anasema wao wakifunika wao wanafunuwa, hao they always hawazuiliwi kufanya kitu. Wakienda Kusini wao wako Kazkazini, wakiwafungia kuwa ndani wao wanawakuta wako ndani. Sasa sisi ni vivyo hivyo,” said President Magufuli.
The actual lyrics, sung at the end of the song by the artistes, goes:
“Na wakiapisha, tunaapisha, na wakifunika, tunafunuwa, wakianika, tunaanuwa na wakisafisha tunachafuwa,”
Sauti Sol were ecstatic by the fact that the Tanzanian president knew one of their songs.
“Ndio maana tunasema Rais Mhe. Dkt John Magufuli atabaki kileleni,” wrote Sauti Sol on Instagram.
Extravaganza was released in May this year by Sauti Sol in collaboration with other artistes including, Bensoul, Nviiri the storyteller, Crystal Asige and Kazkazi who are all signed up under Sauti Sol’s music label.
Gospel musician Jimmi Gait received a hearty welcome from his fans and family on Sunday at the JKIA when he jetted back into the country from treatment in India.
The crowd danced and cheered at him while showering him with flowers and gifts. He thanked his fans for their support and prayers.
The welcome had the onlookers at the airport confused at what was going on.
“I feel loved, I feel supported and thank you so much. I want to say thank you to God because he enabled me to fly to India and I have been treated . I had been scheduled for surgery but it did not come to pass because of your prayers . I feel the better and I had a good experience,” said Gait.
He further explained that he is okay but under treatment for the next six months.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
The artiste addressed his departure to India for special treatment through his YouTube channel. He said the diagnosis on his throat problem was given by Kenyan doctors who recommended surgery.
He revealed that once in Iidia, he underwent tests that established that the infection was in his stomach and that if it was left untreated would have resulted in cancer.
In August, Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege visited the artiste in an Indian hospital while receiving treatment.
She was accompanied by other Kenyans who had flown to India to seek medical care.
Ivorian reggae legend Alpha Blondy is expected in Nairobi on Thursday to headline the 27th edition of Koroga Festival next weekend at the Two Rivers Mall Grounds.
Blondy – real name Seydou Kone – hit the limelight in the 1980s after the release of the hit song ‘Operation Coup Poing (Brigadier Sabari), an account of his run in with the Abidjan (Ivory Coast capital) police street raid in which he nearly lost his life.
FAMOUS HITS
The incident happened at a time when police brutality was rampant in Ivory Coast, especially in the capital city.
His courage to address the injustices in the song, is what put him in trouble with the police.
In subsequent years, Alpha Blondy churned numerous hit songs including Jerusalem.
Speaking on phone ahead of his arrival from Ivory Coast, the 66-year-old musician said he is excited by his scheduled performance in Kenya after many years.
“I’m excited to be performing in Nairobi after a long break. It feels good to be back to this beautiful country in the motherland Africa,” he said.
STAR ATTRACTIONS
Alpha Blondy will perform on Sunday, the last day of the two-day event. Also lined up for the event are local acts Wyre and Redsan.
On day one the star attractions will be Zzero Sufuri of the Zimenishika fame alongside Wamlambez hit-makers Sailors and Decimators.
On the preparation of the event, Capital Commercial director Farida Idris promised one of a kind show.
“Everything has been put in place by the Koroga Festival team to ensure our fans have a great experience as is the custom of all our events,” she said.
The Koroga Festival is organized by Capital Commercial every three months to celebrate the African culture from entertainment to fashion.
Neno Evangelism founder, “Apostle” James Ng’ang’a has rubbished claims that he is demented following a series of viral videos on social media showing him in outbursts and issuing threats.
In an interview with a local radio station, the 66-year-old preacher, who has attracted immense criticism in recent times, emphasized that he was perfectly fine but has no tolerance.
“People should stop misunderstanding me. I’m not insane, I have never been admitted, I have never gone to Mathare (Mathari Hospital). I’m very normal, and mentally sound. What I don’t like, is to be ruffled. I have been antagonized enough to where I am now since my days as a cart-puller,” he said.
Concerning his infamous outbursts of ‘matuta’ and ‘kiosks’, which has been making rounds on social media, the father of three was unapologetic saying that it was true that some of his congregants now turned rebels, joined the church poor and became rich.
SALON
“I started this ministry and those people came. Some of them even stayed in my house, they came with those ‘matutas’ and I took them to the salon,”
He divulged his displeasure when he discovered that some of the church branches he had opened across the country under pastors he had ordained had nothing nearly two decades on, while the pastors were prospering and avoided him with flimsy excuses.
“After 18 years, I discovered the churches had nothing while these people had built their houses. I have my own house and I have bought the church because I have a burden for it. Year after year when we had AGM because we normally meet in August, they would fail to come saying they were attending university or are abroad,” he explained.
“If a church can go for 18 years and can’t buy anything…that’s why I called those churches kiosks and said I will close them. Even now I will close them all because I’m not ready to endure again what I went through for all those years,” he emphasized.
Kenyan entertainer Esther Akoth aka Akothee on Wednesday caused drama in Parliament after she walked in dressed inappropriately.
Akothee, who was in Parliament at the invitation of nominated MP David Sankok, was clad in a green miniskirt suit, sending the parliamentary orderlies in a frenzy as to how they would handle the situation.
Ms Akothe’s dressing failed to meet the standards set by the Speaker’s rules that guide how MPs, members of the press and guests should dress while within the precincts of parliament.
As her host Mr Sankok led her to the members’ dining room, before she could make her way in, the door was immediately slammed shut by one of the female orderlies.
By this time, a swam of green commandos (the sergeant-at-arms) had already milled around.
ORDERLIES
A moment of pleading by Mr Sankok with the orderlies would see her ushered into the corner on the way to the dining room but on condition that she covers herself with a leso that was provided to her to cover her thighs. At first, Akothee in her element, resisted the leso.
Interventions by women MPs Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South) and Soipan Tuya (Narok County Woman Representative) took some time to yield fruits.
At long last, she overlaid the fabric on her short skirt before she was allowed to dine with her host.
The miniskirt
Akothee was in the company of two men and two women that would quickly pass as her staff.
COMMITTEE ROOMS
On March 13, 2019, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi ordered that MPs, members of the press and guests shall not enter the chamber, lounges, dining room or committee rooms without being properly dressed.
According to the Speaker, proper dress means a coat, collar, tie, long-sleeved shirt, long trousers, socks and shoes or service uniform for men and decent formal or business wear for women.
After about an hour of her meeting in the dining room, Ms Akothe emerged ecstatic, in stark contrast to the drama that greeted her.
“The problem is that my legs are taller than my skirt,” she said noting that the meeting was about her foundation- Akothee Foundation- and its commitment to assist the starving people of Turkana.
The move to make some comments before the media saw her break another of the speaker’s rules, which prohibits any nonmember from making comments within the precincts of parliament.
Mr Sankok defended her dress code saying it was appropriate and should not have gone through the drama.
“It’s me who picked her at the gate so that she could get time to talk to the members about her foundation and the good things she is doing to the society,” Mr Sankok said.
After experiencing first-hand the ruthless nature of Kenyan’s online, Inooro TV reporter Victor Kinuthia appears to be switching careers.
Victor has shared with his fans on social media his latest Gikuyu song titled Kirindi.
The song, released on September 14, 2019, already has more than 32,000 views on YouTube.
An excited Victor took to Facebook to urge his fans to watch the new music video, including live performances he has done in different towns.
“Kindly watch my live performance in Gachocho Kigumo today. Continue to subscribe my you tube channel,” he wrote.
Early this month, the vernacular TV reporter gained fame for all the wrong reasons after he was savagely trolled after his struggles to express himself, while covering the arrest of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
In his reporting, there was a bit of stammer, hesitation and nervousness, things not new to TV reporters.
His entry into music has come as a surprise to many who did not know that he could sing.
The song is however not his first release.
The journalist’s YouTube channel reveals that he has been singing for a while, with his first single Ngoro Yakwa being released two years ago.
FANS’ REACTION
Here is how his new song was received by his online fans:
“Wow use the stone thrown by ur enemies to build a firm foundation congrats bro,” Jasmine Wambui said.
“Victor Kinuthia, when u were at Inooro tv, during mother’s day, u talked with much respect towards that mum, I want to encourage u this morning n tell u, God might use peoples criticism for u to rise,” Christine Nyambura wrote.
“Nima gitagwo kirindi..I love the song sooo much. Is it on YouTube?” Wambo Triz commented.
“I didn’t know Victor b4 these but now am a fan of his music, go go go #boychild,” Ann Njogu said.
Ugandan music diva of yesteryear Jackie Chandiru appears to be struggling. Amid reports that she had “passed on”, a video has emerged online showing Jackie looking somehow frail.
Jackie, who shot to fame several years ago as part of the ‘Blu 3’ music trio, was filmed alongside her friend Balaam Barugahare, who is an events guru, at a location which appears to be the back of a ‘village’ house.
Jackie, who has on several occasions admitted to being hooked to drugs, appears to have lost a lot of weight and weak. Her skin is also darker compared to her previous images.
Curiously, she doesn’t utter a single word in the entire video, although occasionally she tries to force a smile.
APPEAL FOR HELP
In the video, Barugahare states that Jackie needs between Sh1.8 to 2.5 million (Sh50,000 to 75,000) every month to facilitate visits to the doctor and a counselor.
His sentiments seem to corroborate reports that Jackie, who has been missing from the music scene for the past five years, has been on rehab due to drug addiction.
In a past interview with NBS TV, Jackie confessed to using drugs to contain her excitement at about the time she was dating her Caucasian boyfriend.
