Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has cancelled her upcoming performance which was scheduled to take place on September 21, 2019 in Johannesburg South Africa following the latest wave of xenophobic violence.

Tiwa was among artistes who were lined up for this year’s DSTV Delicious Food and Music Festival that showcases the best of the continents cuisine and music.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday morning, the All Over hit maker said that due to the violence she will not be perform at the event.

Other artistes scheduled to be part of the festival include British singer Corinne Bailey Rae and other acts from South Africa. Apart from Tiwa the rest are yet to make any comments on the matter.

Other celebrities who have spoken up on the matter include Singer Burna Boy from Nigeria who in an interesting response saying that although he does not encourage violence, everyone has a right to protect themselves at all times.

According to local media, the fresh violence, which broke out in Johannesburg on Sunday, have left at least three people dead and several others hospitalized.

The latest attacks echoes sporadic outbreaks of 2008 when about 60 people were killed and more than 50,000 displaced from their homes.

Tiwa Savage’s and Burna Boy’s comments attracted varied reactions with fans of the former bashing her for the cancellation.

“And the Festival won’t be canceled because you’re not coming… You worth nothing here in South Africa,” said @MadikelaMakgaba.

“There’s no butchering that’s happening? Stop spreading fake news,” wrote @ThickLeeyonce.

“While on it… please tell your fellow Nigerians to leave our country. The must go now,” commented @MaterP.

“You not even the big act, in our country. For you pulling out means nothing to us… You’ll Nigerians like playing innocent, you wouldn’t allow our residents to do this in your own country,” stated @sbusithole.

“I thought you were gonna say. My brothers and sisters, Please come back home,” said @mjncube.

“You said you’re slap AKA but you’re not promoting violence,” commented @leratojohann.

Ariana Grande sues ‘Forever 21’ for Sh1 billion over look-alike ad campaign

US pop star Ariana Grande has sued fashion retailer Forever 21 for using her trademark style to promote its products without her permission, including adverts featuring a “look-alike model.”

Grande is seeking $10 million over claims the brand, and its spin-off cosmetics line Riley Rose, created an online campaign with striking similarities to her music videos, such as “7 Rings,” from late last year.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles district court Monday, claims the campaign was intended to trick consumers into believing Grande had endorsed Forever 21’s youth-oriented products.

“Even a single social media post by Ms Grande can garner fees of several hundred thousand dollars, and her longer-term endorsement arrangements command fees in the millions of dollars,” it said.

Grande has 163 million Instagram followers, making her the most-followed woman on the photo- and video-sharing social media platform.

Images from Forever 21’s Instagram account cited by the lawsuit showed a model wearing purple camouflage clothing and a pink headband and boots similar to those worn by Grande in the “7 Rings” music video.

The images appear to have been taken down from the company’s social media accounts.

A Forever 21 statement denied the allegations, adding that the fashion firm has “worked with (Grande’s) licensing company over the past two years.”

“We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future,” it added.

Bloomberg News reported last week that Forever 21 was preparing for a bankruptcy filing.

NTV executives have terminated a contract with popular reggae DJ Kris Darlin following his decision to vie for the upcoming Kibra by election.

Kris Darlin has been the main host of the weekly Jam Rock reggae show that airs on NTV.

However, after making clear his intention to vie for the seat that fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth, Nairobi News understands that NTV had no choice but terminate his contract as the host of the show.

TERMINATE HIS CONTRACT

“Kris has made his decision that he is getting into politics and as per the editorial policy, he left us with no choice but to terminate his contract as the host of the Jam Rock Reggae Show. This decision was mutual between both parties. We wish him well in his future endeavors. He will, however, host two more shows to bid the fans bye,” Justus Tharao, NTV’s Head of Production and Programming, confirmed.

Despite Darlin’s departure, NTV deal with his reggae unit Dohty Familly still holds.

American singer Demi lovato is baring all her cellulite to the world.

The ‘Sorry not Sorry’ singer shared one of her biggest fears with her fans saying that she has always been editing her bikini photos on Instagram to give the illusion that she has a perfect body.

But not anymore. She says she is tired of feeling ashamed of her body just to appeal to what is deemed as beautiful, especially in the entertainment industry.

In a long post shared on Friday Demi posted a picture of herself in a leopard print bikini. She poses with her back facing the camera exposing her behind and relatively thick thighs.

“This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!! I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got,” wrote Demi Lovato.

She added: “I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards. So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day.”

CUT A CERTAIN IMAGE

She also revealed the brutal diet programmes and workout sessions she had to go through just to cut a certain image to the public.

“It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit. Anyway, here’s me, RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should love you to. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too,” said Ms Lovato.

Last year, the singer was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after a suspected drug overdose. Lovato has struggled with substance abuse for years

A Zambian Deejay has refuted claims on social media and blogs that he was beaten to a pulp on Thursday by revellers in a night club for playing music by South African artistes.

DJ Hero as he is popularly known as, issued a statement on Facebook saying that he was safe and sound and nothing of what is being propagated has happened to him.

“Saw some online post saying I was beaten (Gained on mi face) coz I played a South African song….. Unfortunately someone made a meme of me and went viral… Am safe guys none happened to me? Thanks y’all that been calling and texting asking if am doing Good,” wrote DJ Hero.

It all started when a fellow colleague who goes by the name Star DJ Virus shared the story online. He claimed that DJ Hero had been attacked by revellers at a club he works for, after playing music by South African artistes.

Angry fans in the club, reportedly, proceeded to pound his face with kicks and blows leaving his face unrecognisable.

“Zambian DJ Hero Dj gains weight in seconds after playing South African Music in Club on the a Copperbelt. #StopXenophobia ❌,” wrote Star Dj Virus on Facebook.

This was later picked up by online news websites including Zimeye, an integrated network of journalists and other professionals reporting on Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa, and Swahili Times.

VERIFIED TWITTER ACCOUNTS

Both Zimeye and Swahili Times have verified Twitter accounts.

The alleged picture of DJ Hero after the purported beating is that of an African American inmate who was allegedly attacked by prison wardens in 2018.

The man who is identified as Darren Glover was taking wedding photos with his interracial fiancée, which led to the attack by the correctional officers.

This comes in the wake of xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The attacks broke out in Johannesburg on Sunday, leaving several people dead and others hospitalized.

The attacks are said to have majorly carried by South Africans who went as far as destroying property owned by foreigners and looting any merchandise found.

All the destruction and maiming of foreigners made media personalities and celebrities to speak out on the matter.

This includes Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage who cancelled a concert performance scheduled to take place on September 21, 2019 in Johannesburg.

Nicki Minaj on Thursday shocked her fans after she announced she was retiring from music to have a family. The 36-year-old rapper broke the news on Twitter.

She tweeted: “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me. In the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”

The news comes after Nicki had earlier dropped a massive hint that she’d secretly been married.

CHANGED HER NAME

She has been dating Kenneth Petty and changed her Twitter name to “Mrs. Petty” last month.

Nicki, who has been busy working on her album, said that she’ll be holding off on having a “big wedding” until after the record is finished, but would have a smaller ceremony for now.

“I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married,” she said.

She added, “I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.”

According to multiple reports in the US, Mr Petty is a registered sex offender and was also convicted for manslaughter and attempted rape.

Court records in US, obtained by TMZ, show he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in April 1995. He was 16 at the time, and so was his victim.

Prosecutors said he used a sharp object when he tried to force the girl to have sexual intercourse. Petty served almost  four years in NY state prison for the crime.

Years after being released, Petty was convicted of first-degree manslaughter, and served another seven years for shooting a man. He was released in 2013.

Bongo flava star Ali Kiba has broken his silence over reports that he has broken up with his Kenyan wife Amina Khalef after almost two years of marriage.

The rumours started doing rounds few weeks after the couple welcomed their first child -Alikiba’s fourth baby- last September.

It was alleged that Amina was fed up with the singer’s disrespectful ways towards her which at some point forced her to seek counselling.

It is at this point, the reports further day, that the Mombasa-born woman beauty decided to ask for divorce from the singer who is known to keep his life a secret.

Even as Alikiba chose silence over the reports, his wife Amina was quick to dismiss the rumours last month saying their union was just fine and their love has never withered even one bit.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

However, about a day ago during a radio interview to promote his new song ‘Bembea’ featuring Dogo Aslay, Alikiba broke his silence on the matter setting the record straight that his marriage is intact.

“Ali hivi kwanza tuliskia stori ati oooh watu wa Mombasa eti wamerudi nyumbani, whats going on uko na family kama kawaida?” the XXL show presenter probed.

“Familia ipo kama kawaida, mtoto anaendelea vizuri namshukuru Mungu wanaoyasambaza maneno hayo ni vyema kama wangekaa bize na maisha yao” Alikiba responded.

Alikiba and Amina married in April 2018 in two lavish ceremonies one in Mombasa and the other in Dar es Salaam.

The wedding was rumoured to have cost Sh50 milion with Mombasa Governor a close ally of Alikiba being the main financier.

The Hype Fest concert headlined by Jamaican dancehall star Konshens that went down at the Ngong Racecourse on Saturday night has to be the one of the raunchiest live performance ever to be staged in Kenya in recent times.

Hundreds of ravers turned up for the show, most of them being young fans in their mid-20s.

It also attracted celebrities such as footballer-turned-politician McDonald Mariga, Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.

However, this wasn’t just any other show seen here before.

Despite the cold, many female ravers turned up dressed skimpily, leaving very little to the imagination.

The ravers also smoked weed freely even in the presence of the police. Certainly there was plenty of it as the smoke puffed hung in the night air for the duration of the show.

Alcohol was also in plenty with a bottle retailing ‘affordably’ at just Sh250.

On stage it was no different with raunchiness being theme of the night as various acts who took to stage had semi-nude female dancers’ twerking to their tunes.

LOCAL ACTS

That was the script from performances by the Boondocks Gang, Gwaash and Ochungluo Family.

Other acts of the night who got the crowd hyped up were from The Kansoul, Sailors of the Wamlambez hit, as well as the Sol Generation duo of Nviiri the Storyteller and Bensoul.

Ethic were the last local act, to warm up the stage for the man of the hour, Konshens who pulled up around 2am.

The Bruk off yah back hitmaker performance did not disappoint the crowd, who kept screaming and shouting the entire time.

Konshens thrilled his fans, especially when he performed tunes like Gal A bubble that were occasionally backed up by his well-endowed semi-nude female dancer who took the twerking moves to the next level, perhaps to teach the local twerkers a lessons.

The show lived up to its ‘expectations’ according to ravers who spoke to Nairobi News, but it definitely wasn’t what Kenyan moral policeman Ezekiel Mutua would approve of.

Diamond Platnumz and artistes signed up with Wasafi Records Label were conspicuously absent on Saturday as Bongo flava artiste Harmonize wedded his Italian girlfriend Sarah in a colorful Islamic ceremony in Dar es Salaam.

Nairobi News understands that Harmonize sent out invitation cards to Diamond and other artistes from Wasafi Records Label which he recently quit, but none of them showed up.

HARMONIZE’S EXIT

Harmonize sent the invites-only cards to his former boss and the Wasafi crew even though Diamond never invited him to his girlfriend Tanasha’s baby shower a few weeks ago.

There are rumours that since Harmonize made his intention to terminate his 15-year contract with Wasafi, Diamond has remained bitter with him.

Despite Wasafi top manager Sallam Mendes insisting that they loved how Harmonize conducted himself professionally by handing in a termination request in writing, Diamond wasn’t pleased at all.

Harmonize was the second top income generator at Wasafi Records after Diamond and his exit dealt the label a major blow.

Diamond also feels Harmonize betrayed him because he was the first artiste he signed when he started WCB label and significantly contributed to his rise in the game.

COLOURFUL WEDDING

Harmonize has since started his own label, Konde Gang.

The absence of his former label mates notwithstanding, Harmonize and his bride said “I do” in a colourful ceremony witnessed by close family members and friends.

The wedding only happened after the bride converted to Islam.

Just few hours before the wedding, the longtime lovebirds had earlier on solemnized their union at the Attorney Generals chambers (Ndoa ya Bomani), a move that had been necessitated by their different faiths, Harmonize being a Muslim and Sarah a Christian.

The two lovebirds have been dating for more than three years since Harmonize parted ways with Jacline Wolpher.

Evidently, The Bell Jamz stage at Nyege Nyege is not well designed and lit to match other sections at the festival but believable, the vibe it is creating is irresistible.

The stage was graced by people of different calibres especially those who were finding it hard to blend into Boutiq Electroniq and the deejaying style of Music on other stages.

However, Kenyans could not cease to show their presence when the DJ took to house Music at the Bell Jamz stage.

As the DJ continued to play various number from Uganda and Kenya, the mood was euphoric when the music took to old Kenyan vibes that when the Kenyans heard Mr. Googz and Vinnie Banton – Githurai they stormed the stage and danced to their knees.

The 2019 Nyege Nyege Festival has attracted revellers from all over the world, including the East African region. Groups of people from different countries are seen holding their national flags while enjoying the festival.

Some Kenyans used the popular phrase Wamlambez to identify their compatriots in a foreign land.

Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara has come out to narrate how she messed up her very first interview on TV.

Yvonne made her revelation after the online community trolled Inooro reporter Victor Kinuthia after his live reporting went wrong.

Yvonne took to her Twitter handle and shared her first TV interview which happened in 2012 when she interviewed a Member of Parliament whose identity she did not reveal.

“The year is 2012/13. I’ve been doing prime time news for only a few months. My co-anchor is Ndungu wa Mburu. I have a very important interview with an MP on an issue that affects the media fraternity. The entire industry is watching my interview,” she narrated.

“Interview begins, and I can tell it’s going downhill from there. MP runs me out of town during the conversation. I was not as prepared as I should have been. I can feel my phone vibrating like mad. Twitter notifications in their hundreds. SMS coming through. Massacre!” she recalled.

According to Yvonne her colleagues were upset with her while those in other media houses were dismayed.

She instantly became the subject of discussion on Twitter as netizen started questioning her qualification for the job.

“I’m trending on Twitter. Words like “bimbo”, “slay queen”, “nothing between her ears”, “hired for her looks, not her brains”, she wrote.

But after all the embarrassment, she still had to host the news bulletin that night.

“My Face is hot. I’m embarrassed but I push it through. It’s only Monday, so I will have to anchor news the rest of the week with this hanging over my head!” she said.

Realizing what was happening to her, her boss Joe Ageyo sent her an encouraging message to cheer her up.

“Bad day at the office. You will get through this. Learn from this, you will get better next time,” read the message from Ageyo.

Okwara said after that one TV interview she was given more chances and that is what made her to be where she is today.

Trump delivers a low blow on John Legend and his wife in Twitter rant

President Donald Trump has in the last day been exchanging words with US celebrity couple singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen.

Trump has described the couple as boring, calling Chrissy “filthy mouthed”.

The US president started by blasting those who are appreciating his work mostly in the Criminal Justice reform in the country.

“When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close,” tweeted Trump.

He then went ballistic on four prominent people of color – Van Jones, Lester Holt, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen – claiming that people who had nothing to do with reforming the criminal justice system are taking the praise for it.

‘FILTHY MOUTHED’

“A man named Van Jones and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!). I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring,” Trump tweeted.

Trump went on to refer to Legend’s wife as ‘filthy mouthed wife’.

He said the singer and his wife expressed their satisfaction about the criminal justice system reform but never supported gave no support when he was trying to get it done.

“Musician John Legend and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is – but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed. “Anchor” Lester Holt doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about,” he posted.

This was after Latoya, announced on Instagram that the two had broken up and that she is now single.

Even as the news spread, Konshens chose to remain silent over the matter, until last Friday when he poured out his heart to the mother of his son.

The Gal a Bubble hit maker posted on Instagram memories of happier days with Latoya.

The picture of the couple in a loving embrace was accompanied with a caption which appears to confirm that indeed their marriage is over.

“At least I can say I knew true unfiltered, unedited love with no ulterior motive. Love you always Latts,” read the caption.

Konshens and Latoya dated for six years before marrying in November 2017 at a private wedding in Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Miami, USA.

I’ve had two abortions, Rapper Barak Jacuzzi’s ex Kairetu says after ‘break up’

A video  surfaced online showing Kenyan-American rapper Barak Jacuzzi involved in an ugly spat with his girlfriend Lishan, commonly known as Kairetu on her social media accounts.

The argument appears to have happened during the  Konshens in Kenya concert that went down on Saturday night.

The video shows a drunk Kairetu confronting Barak and confessing to being pregnant for him three times before.

“How many times have I been pregnant for you Barak? Barak how many times have I been pregnant for you? Anasema hanijui , Nimeshika mimba yake mara ngapi? Nimeshika mimba yake mara tatu. Weka simu on, weka simu on niwaonyeshe saa hizi,” she dared.

The drama continued outside a tent where they are seen being separated by an unidentified man after a physical fight.

In  another video, which has surfaced through YouTube, the two decided to respond to the messy argument.

THEIR RELATIONSHIP

Kairetu admits that she lied about the number of abortions that she had during their relationship.

She had only two abortions and admits that she was drunk and mad at him. She explains that Barak pretended not to know her, something that made her angry.

On the other hand, Barak explains that he was backstage during the concert when Kairetu popped in very angry at him. He explains that he tried to control her but it was out of his control and he ended up acting the way he did. He claims Kairetu bit him on the leg .

In the video they both seem to be salty at each other and admit that they are no longer together, for now.

This is not the first time that we have seen  celebrities engaging in disagreements in public.

Early this year, a video surfaced online where Kenyan vlogger Natalie Tewa and her Ugandan ex-boyfriend Rnaze had a messy breakup and later reconciled following intervention by famous socialite Vera Sidika.

Later, they confirmed that they were no longer together.

Ugandan police now allows Chameleon to hold music concerts

After push and shove, Ugandan police have granted celebrated musician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone permission to stage music shows around the country.

Some time in July, the Badilisha hitmaker was scheduled to stage shows in the Western part of Masaka, but the same were halted after the singer announced he’d joined active politics.

The cancellation of the shows came just a week after Chameleone, who is very popular in Kenya, joined the Democratic Party and declared his intention to contest for the Kampala Lord Mayoral city in the country’s General Election set for 2021.

Chameleone also currently serves as DP chief mobilizer and critics suggest President Yoweri Museveni’s regime was concerned the singer would use such shows as to preach politics to the masses.

But Police have now explained they have no intentions of blocking the singer’s music shows as a person, but instead wanted the organisers to follow the set guidelines.

“Chameleone and his managers had not followed the set guidelines like telling us about the agreement they have with the organisers and the number of people expected at the shows. Since everything has been fulfilled, he’s free to sing now,” Paul Kangave, Masaka police spokesperson explained.

Besides Chameleone, police in the country have also cancelled a number of music shows planned by opposition politician and singer Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Bongo Flava artiste Harmonize is ‘not yet taken’. This is according to the musician’s manager, Beauty Mmari, alias Mjerumani.

On Saturday it was widely reported that the singer had tied the knot with his Italian girlfriend, Sarah Michelotti in Dar es Salaam, months after their engagement in Italy.

The Muslim ‘wedding’, which was followed with an after-party for only 100 guests, was supposedly held at Serena Hotel in Dar-es-salaam.

Pictures of Harmonize and his fiancée looking resplendent in her wedding dress during the event were also widely shared on social media.

But speaking to Global Publishers, the musician’s manager, Mjerumani, on Tuesday said Harmonize did not exchange wedding vows with Sarah, but used his fiancée as a video vixen in one of his upcoming songs.

“Harmonize did not hold any wedding last Saturday he was shooting a music video for his new track called Marry Me. The concept behind it is similar to the one Diamond adopted, when he used his ex-lover, Zari, as a video vixen in the song called Iyena,” said Mjerumani.

“There is no way Harmonize will exchange wedding vows without much pomp and colour. Should he hold a real wedding, a lot of people will be expected to attend,” Mjerumani added.

On social media, many of his fans wondered why the artiste secretly organised and held his wedding, without even inviting some of the big-name entertainers from Tanzania.

News of the ‘wedding’ came just a few weeks after it was announced that the Kwangaru hit maker had left the WCB stable for unknown reasons.

Notable among those missing from the ‘nuptials’ were the Wasafi Crew members including Diamond Platnumz.
