Why Chipukeezy is quitting Ebru TV

Comedian Mwasia Mutua, popularly known as Chipukeezy, has quit Ebru TV after declining to meet certain demands from the media house.

The comedian, who hosts the Chipukeezy Show on Mondays on Ebru TV, quit after he was asked to terminate his collaboration with Nick Chege alias Kartelo.

“So I received an email from Ebru TV asking me to terminate my agreement and collaboration with Kartelo on my show,” Chipukeezy posted on Facebook.

According to the comedian, the station wanted Kartelo out of the show because the show was becoming “a bit Ghetto”.

“They say they are a bit concerned that the show has become a bit Ghetto because of the many Youths (Upcoming Musicians and Comedians) on the show,” Chipukeezy explained.

But an adamant Chipukeezy has refused to yield to these demands, instead saying that he would not continue with the show without Kartelo.

“I am not willing or planning under any circumstances to stop supporting Kartelo and any other young person in this industry and since Ebru seems to have made up their minds on terminating Kartelo’s appearance on my show. I am sadly left with no option but to terminate my contract as well,” he said.

UPLIFTING THE YOUTH

“The Chipukeezy Show will, however, continue with Kartelo and many more on a different platform,” he assured his fans.

Apparently, the TV station’s management wants more politicians and a few corporate executives on the show as guests.

However, Chipukeezy says his passion is to uplift the youth in the country.

“I feel like God has offered me an opportunity to create a platform for these young people who are mostly from the slums and majorly disadvantaged,” he said.

The comedian further maintained that the politicians and executives are good people, but they are already living their dreams, which is why he prefers hosting the youth on his show.

“Our executives are actually living their dreams. On the other hand, I feel like most talented youths are without hope and opportunity and unless someone holds their hands their future is mostly uncertain,” he said.

Just weeks after being released from Tanzanian jail, Kenyan businessman and music mogul Joe Kariuki has relaunched his Amsha Mama Initiative Festival.

The initiative, which was launched back in December 2015, is a program that seeks to empower women by organizing business workshops and exhibitions.

During the launch that took place in Naivasha, Joe announced that his company Candy and Candy had partnered with Palsunite Capital Ltd, a registered microfinance organization, to offer low interest loans to address financial challenges that the women, especially the small income earners, face.

The initiative will culminate in a mega convention concert dubbed ‘Amsha Mama Festival’ that is set for September this year in Naivasha where several artistes will take on stage to entertain as women showcase business and crafts.

“Candy and Candy is back bigger than before. We rekindling the Amsha Mama Initiative that had been dormant due to the fact that I was incarceration,” Kariuki said.

DEAL GONE SOUR

Kariuki was released from a Tanzanian jail last month after he won an appeal against a seven year sentence in a case he was accused of defrauding a businessman.

The sentence was overturned for lack of evidence. He had served a year and seven by the time of his release.

Kariuki claims he was framed by the said businessman in a deal gone sour.

Kariuki made his name in the Kenyan music industry when he started the Candy and Candy Music label that closed down shops after three years due to poor returns.

Candy and Candy Ltd then switched to events and other business ventures including real estates.

Moral policeman Ezekiel Mutua has banned playing of Tetema and Wamlambez songs in public, saying they are “pure pornography”.

According to Dr Mutua, the CEO at the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), the song Tetema and Wamlambez by Tanzanian singers Rayvanny and Diamond Platinumz and the Sailors respectively can only be played in night clubsand bars where the audience is strictly adult.

He also rapped some national leaders for dancing to the two songs in public.

“Tetema and Wamlambez songs are strictly forbidden outside of clubs and bars. It’s embarrassing to see even national leaders singing and dancing to the obscenity in public. The lyrics are dirty and not suitable for public consumption, especially mixed company or where children are likely to be watching or listening. Both songs are pure pornography,” said The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua.

CODED

He added: “While we may not ban them because they are coded, it’s important for the public to know that they are dirty and unsuitable for mixed company. Let them be restricted to clubs, strictly for adults.”

The song Tetema was released in February this year and has been on playlists of most Kenyan DJs due to its compelling beats.

The song has been played in different political rallies with leaders being caught on camera jamming to its beats.

These include ODM party leader Raila Odinga, former Nairobi woman representative Rachel Shebesh, Machakos first lady Lilian Ng’ang’a, among others.

Wamlambez was released in April the same year taking the music industry by storm with its catchy phrase and double entendre.

So much that Kenyans have been popularising the phrase globally, with the likes of American singer Christina Millan and American actor Jamie Foxx catching the fever.

Jimmy Gait: I was misdiagnosed by Kenyan doctors – VIDEO

Kenyan gospel singer Jimmy Gait, who travelled to India two weeks ago for treatment, says he will not be undergoing throat surgery as earlier announced.

Gait, who flew to India for specialized treatment, said medical tests done on him in India revealed that he was misdiagnosed by Kenyan doctors.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Appointment hit-maker said after seeking the services of another medic, specifically from India, and after consultations, the doctor said the proposed operation would have left him unable to ever sing again.

“This is because your voice would have permanently changed. You couldn’t have been able to sing. That was truly shocking and I couldn’t believe my ears,” said the singer.

According to the singer, doctors in Nairobi diagnosed him with a strange throat condition and recommended an operation.

The singer then went ahead to share a clip of a doctor describing his problem and one Dr Sanjay Khanna who has been treating him at BLK Hospital in India says that the pain he was experiencing in his throat was actually as a result of increased acid production leading to an infection in his stomach.

SURGERY

Dr Khanna also mentioned that the artiste is responding positively to medication and would be discharged soon.

The singer further said that he was shocked that Kenyan doctors quickly recommended surgery before carrying out any tests on him, suggesting that they were only out for his money.

He explains how he was taken through comprehensive medical tests in India to establish what exactly he was suffering from.

He also stated that some of them seemed to focus too much on making money from their patients.

“I am shocked that a doctor would rather make money from me than give me proper treatment,” he says.

Tanzania responds to ban of ‘Tetema’ in Kenya

Tanzania music regulatory board BASATA, has responded to moral policeman Dr Ezekiel Mutua directive to ban the hit song Tetema from being played in public place.

In its response, three days following the ban, BASATA said it was surprised with Dr Mutua’s decision to ban the song by Tanzanian singers Rayvanny and Diamond Platnumz, insisting its not pornographic as stated by the CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

BASATA’s boss Godfrey Mngereza said the body always vets all the songs in the country as per the law before they are released and as such Tetema is good for public consumption.

“Tumekuwa tukifuatilia nyimbo za wasanii hapa nchini na kuwaita wanapokosea. Tunatoa onyo na hata kufungia nyimbo zao lakini huu Tetema hauna shida. Ndio maana nasema sijui wametumia vigezo gani kuuzuia usichezwe mchana,” Mngereza said.

PURE PORNOGRAPHY

Early this week, Dr Mutua issued the ban on Tetema and another hit song Wamlambez by the Sailors which have both received massive airplay in the country, terming them as pure pornography.

As per Dr Mutua’s directive, the songs will only be played in night clubs and bars where the audience is strictly adult.

“While we may not ban them because they are coded, it’s important for the public to know that they are dirty and unsuitable for mixed company. Let them be restricted to clubs, strictly for adults,” he noted.

Yondo, who last visited Kenya 24 years ago, is elated to be back and is looking forward to meeting some of her old fans.

Speaking to the Nation on Wednesday, she said: “Though I hadn’t planned any show as I am on holiday, I still look forward to using this chance to stage some shows in Kenya and Tanzania.”

Nairobi fans could get an opportunity to meet her on Friday, when she is expected to make a guest appearance during the grand launch of the new Hotel Tembo and Club in Ongata Rongai, which has been billed as the new home of Congolese music entertainment.

The show will also be graced by Nairobi-based Congolese band Les Mangelepa, led by veteran singer and composer Kabila Kabanze ‘Evani’.

Born Denise Kusala Yondo into a musical family, she made her music debut in 1975 in the legendary Tabu Ley’s Afrisa International alongside her elder sister, Chantal Yondo.

Their mother was half Congolese and Belgian, while their father was Congolese.

“I owe my success to Tabu Ley, for having inspired me by transforming me from a dancer into a singer,” she said.

She followed the path of such Congolese songbirds as Mbilia Bel and Tshala Muana, who also started out as dancers.

Mbilia Bel joined Afrisa soon after Yondo had left the group to pursue a solo career in 1982.

Yondo’s Kenyan fans will probably recall the electrifying stage performance during an URTNA live show at Moi International Sports Centre Gymnasium in Nairobi when she was a part of Soukous Stars band.

During that tour, she was accompanied by veteran guitarist Lokassa ya Mbongo, singer Shimita El Diego and guitarist Saladin Pereira.

Later, the Soukous Stars band visited Kenya during a concert tour organised by then mercurial Nairobi-based Congolese promoter Tamukati Ndongala (deceased).

“But I last visited Kenya as a solo artiste after a performance tour of Tanzania,” she recalled.

Yondo, who was born in Bukavu in eastern DR Congo, has, since settling in Paris, where she lives with her three children, toured with Soukous Stars and other groups.

Besides Bazo and Wapi Yo, she has many other great songs in albums such as Demiere Minute and Agenda.

She is looking forward to launching her song J’ambrasseriai in Kenya. Aware of the popularity of rhumba among African music lovers, Yondo has incorporated the beats in the song.

Keroche Breweries heiress Anerlisa Muigai treated her mother to a surprise birthday celebration days after she was released from police cells over tax evasion charges.

Anerlisa, accompanied by her boyfriend Tanzanian singer Ben Pol, visited the palatial home of Tabitha Karanja and Joseph Karanja carrying a birthday cake, a bouquet of flowers and a card.

They sang “happy birthday” to her as the beleaguered Keroche Breweries CEO Mrs Karanja cuts the cake.

“In the mix of everything, I remembered today is my mother’s birthday and Ben and I decided to surprise and cheer her up before she went to work this morning… Happy Birthday Mum, We love you and may God bless you always,” wrote Anerlisa Muigai.

The owners of Keroche Breweries Ltd made headlines last week after they were arrested by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to answer to up to 10 charges related to tax evasion amounting to Sh14.4 billion.

VOCAL

During their detention, their daughter Anerlisa remained vocal, even penning a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta begging him to intervene in her parent’s plight.

The couple was later released on a Sh10 million and Sh2 million cash bail, with the company paying Sh10 million.

Genge artiste Jua Cali’s wife, Lilly Asigo, on Friday disclosed that she sometimes checks her husband’s inbox messages just to see what is happening.

The mother of three said that she had to ask for his password in order to always know who is trying to come in between the two as she tries to deal with his stardom.

Speaking to Citizen TV, she said that the singer, however, does not have her social media passwords.

“Just because he doesn’t post me every day, it doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with our marriage. I have access to his (Jua Cali) DMs (direct messages) but he doesn’t have access to mine because he has never asked,” said Asigo.

FAITHFUL

She added that when someone tells you they are faithful, you trust them, but sometimes people like her need evidence.

“When you go to the DMs, you read and weigh them and see if you will answer, leave them or question why a fan is insisting on talking to him,” she said.

The two have been married for six years and have three children.

Here’s the shameful reason why Ethic’s club banger ‘Figa’ was pulled down from YouTube

From being one of the most new popular music groups, Ethic’s once bright career appear to be taking a turn for the worst.

Ethic Entertainment made up of four young men namely, Swat, Rekles, Zilladropa, and Seska are now in more trouble with their latest song ‘Figa’.

This is after Kenyans were able to unearth a serious problem with the song, which has since been deleted from YouTube. The beats to the song were ripped off a song titled ‘Cono’, sang by Dutch rapper Jhorrmountain in collaboration with Puri and Adje.

Cono was released in December 9, 2017. And although it has no video, the song has more than 25 million views on YouTube. Ethic has accelerated to more than one million views in just two months.

TROLLING ETHIC

The quiet disappearance of the song has caused a chatter on social media as Kenyans now conclude that it was not by accident. Many Kenyans camped on Cono with comments trolling Ethic.

“I’ve heard this beat before but I can’t figa it out,” said Newton Muthuri.

“Kama uko hapa after ethic pull down. Piga like kakisonga,” stated two minute movie scene.

“Gonga like if you here after the figa ban,” wrote Keith Kipkoech.

“Kenyan producers are trash wallai,” commented Watson Gitau.

“Naskiza hii song but the words in my head ni “mbulu luku washa kindukulu”,” said Ed K.

Ethic released their song ‘Figa’ in June this year. The song was positively received to the point of attracting the attention of celebrated Jamaican dance hall singer Konshens after Homeboyz radio presenter G Money did a remix of the song.

LAMBA LOLO

In addition, he said that he was interested in working with the artistes and was looking forward to perform alongside Ethic on his upcoming concert scheduled to take place in Nairobi next month.

However, trouble started for the ‘Lamba Lolo’ hit-makers when earlier this month the song which would have probably put them on the map mysteriously disappeared from Youtube.

Since then, Ethic has not publicly come out to give a statement.

Gospel singer Bahati’s wife, Diana Marua has revealed that before she met the father of her two children she was a notorious party animal.

Speaking on K24’s Up Close with Betty Kyalo show on Friday, the now born-again model she said that she used to party from Thursday to Monday with friends at different clubs.

Her life was characterised by numerous road trips to different social joints across the country where her aim was just to have fun.

In fact, she adds that she never stepped in a church and would sleep in through Sunday to Monday.

Bahati then jokingly chimes in saying that he used to pick her up – while they were still dating – from many of her night escapades where she would pretend to be sober for him.

“Of course before I met Bahati I was of the world ile proper. I never used to go to church. My life used to start on Thursday halafu tunamaliza Monday hapo ndio tunatoa high heels. The whole weekend road trips, twende Naivasha, tuingie town ingine turudi,” she said.

BAHAT’I ARMS

And it’s her past life of being the party socialite that led her into Bahati’s arms. Their first encounter was when she appeared as a video vixen for the singer’s hit song “Mapenzi”, where she played the lead character alongside Bahati.

Diana acted as the bride, dressed in a white wedding gown ready to marry the man of her dreams.

“The first one on one with Bahati tulipatana akitaka kushoot video yake ya ‘Mapenzi’ so he wanted a video vixen and that is how we met. I was actually introduced to him by a deejay friend of ours. Tukafanya video ikaiisha,” says Ms Marua.

She adds: “At that time I was dating, and that is when hell broke loose for me on my dating life. Actually that morning as we were going to shoot his video that is when I broke up with my then boyfriend.”

Bahati first introduced the mother of his two children back in 2017 calling her his ‘Prayer Partner’, a tag that sparked a debate on social media.

Netizens wanted to know whether a prayer partner is a person you can depend on for religious encouragement, or just a fancy name for girlfriends before making it official.

City women are on a mission to change some thirst of sorts that is if the latest bachelor on the block is ready to take them.

SILVER LINING

Instead of expressing disappointment and devastation, Kenyan women were already seeing the silver lining.

Most of them declared that they are now out to win the attention of the Jamaican singer now that he is single again.

Some went as far as telling men not to bother attending the concert as it has now become a gig for women only.

This will not be the first time the dancehall artiste is performing in Kenya.

After his first performance in 2014, he said that he has always loved Kenya were he has a huge following.

American comedian Kevin Hart was involved in an accident on Sunday night – sustaining major back injuries – after his driver lost control of the vehicle they were travelling in.

According to BBC News the comedian was being driven in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda on Mulholland Highway when the accident happened.

The driver, who also sustained major back injuries, lost control of the car resulting it to tumble into an embankment.

After struggling to have a child for seven years, Kenyan gospel singer Kambua Mathu is the newest celebrity mother in town.

Word has it that Kambua and her husband Jackson Mathu welcomed a bouncing baby boy a few weeks ago.

News of Kambua’s pregnancy hit the headlines back in May attracting lots of excitement on social media with many celebrities congratulating her.

The excitement was understandable as Kambua had attracted unwarranted flack in the past for not being childless in the close to a decade marriage to businessman Mathu, who many have mistaken to be a pastor.

Activities in Homa Bay town were brought to a standstill on Monday afternoon when singer Esther Akoth aka Akothee made a grand entry into the town.

Her intentions was to get into a local supermarket to promote food products and a local airline.

Akothee’s acts including moving around in a car branded “Madam Boss” and having heavily built men as bodyguards by her side could not go unnoticed by people who were around town including mama mbogas.

Locals chased the entertainer into a local supermarket where she was to promote the food products.

SHUT ITS DOORS

People abandoned their businesses to go after Akothee who was walking into a supermarket.

Her entry into the town forced the supermarket that she got into to shut its doors to control the huge crowd that was gathering around.

Nyaka wane ma wawuo gi Madam Boss. (We must see and talk to madam boss),” the crowd shouted as they tried to force their way into the supermarket.

But the management of the retail shop remained steadfast to have it shut until Akothee left.

The supermarket was closed for about 15 minutes allowing the singer to complete her business.

Willy Paul pushes bad boy image a notch higher with Twitter request

Former gospel artiste, Willy Paul is at it again. Just weeks after releasing the indelicate song, ‘Lamba Nyonyo’, the controversial artiste is, once again, causing a stir on social media in a new Twitter post.

The musician, on Tuesday, asked his female followers to audition for a spot in his next video. Stunningly, he demands that the women should have big “bottoms” and sexy bodies.

He asked the women to speak up if they fit these requirements and stand a chance to be in his upcoming video.

“Would you like to be in my next video?? Are you a female with a big a**** and sexy body??? Speak up tumalizane.” said the controversial artiste.

Although the artiste is yet to reveal exactly what the women will be doing in his video, Kenyans replying to the tweet have already begun to speculate that the video, as well as the music accompanying it, will be anything but modest.

SECULAR MUSIC

This new move by the controversial artiste adds to already growing speculation that he has officially shifted from gospel music to secular music.

Willy Paul has in the past few months been a constant discussion point on various entertainment channels for his not-so-subtle shift from gospel music to secular music.

The artiste first hit gossip headlines after releasing his hit song ‘Hallelujah’ in collaboration with Ugandan secular artiste Nandy.

The controversy was further fuelled after a video of the duo performing the song, seductively, on stage went viral.

Despite the apparent undeniable shift, the musician is yet to fully admit to being a secular musician.

He has, however, managed to maintain a considerably large fan base in the country and continues to be one of the most popular artistes in Kenya.
